Pregarten is an Upper Austrian municipality in the Mühlviertel in the district of Freistadt with 5571 inhabitants. Pregarten lies at an altitude of 425 m in the Lower Mühlviertel.
Neolithic finds indicate the early settlement of today's municipal area. The name "Pregarten" (→see below) suggests Slavic settlement activity.
As part of the colonization of the area by monks from Sankt Florian, starting from the nearby Wartberg, the core settlement around today's town square probably emerged.

Calvary: The entrance to the Calvary is located on Gutauer Straße near the bridge arch over the railroad tracks. A Way of the Cross begins here, which leads to the
Calvary Chapel situated on a slope overlooking the Feldaisttal valley. The Way of the Cross and chapel were donated by the former Pregarten resident Michael Bodingbauer in 1858-1860.
Kulturhaus Bruckmühle: The former mill on the bridge over the Feldaist in the valley between the village center and today's train station was already mentioned in documents in the 13th century.
