Hellmonsödt is a market town in Upper Austria in the district of Urfahr-Umgebung in the upper Mühlviertel with 2371 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the judicial district of
Urfahr. Hellmonsödt lies at an altitude of 825 m above sea level in the central area of the Urfahr-Umgebung district in the upper Mühlviertel. Originally in the eastern part of the 
Duchy of Bavaria, the village has belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century and to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns since 1490. 
The first documented mention of the village dates back to 1260 (Helmigsode),
