Culture and sights
The Catholic town parish church of Gallneukirchen has probably existed since the 9th century and is dedicated to St. Gallus. The current size was achieved by a reconstruction in the 14th century, the furnishings date mainly from 1770.
The Protestant Christuskirche was built between 1904 and 1905 for the Protestant Christusgemeinde Gallneukirchen, whose catchment area includes the eastern part of the Urfahr-Umgebung district and the entire Freistadt district. The last renovation of the neo-Gothic building took place in 1997.
Riedegg Castle is a castle complex in the neighboring municipality of Alberndorf in der Riedmark in the Gusen valley next to the municipal border with Gallneukirchen. The castle was mentioned in 1150 as a castle and was rebuilt in the 17th century to the present castle. Since 1936 it has been owned by the Mariannhill missionaries, who have turned it into an educational house. Between 1145 and 1848 Gallneukirchen was under the lordship of Riedegg, which had a significant influence on the history of the market. Today the castle houses a Marian chapel and a museum. Riedegg Castle is home to the only Africa Museum in the Mühlviertel with a remarkable ethnographic collection. It shows the history and culture of this continent, especially from the Transvaal and the Free State of Oranje.
In Gallneukirchen, the French Cross at the intersection of the road from Gallneukirchen to Hellmonsödt with the road coming from the north from Reichenau commemorates the French soldiers who fell in 1742 and another memorial commemorates the events of the "Mühlviertel Hare Hunt" towards the end of the Second World War.
The Heimathaus primarily shows the former craft activities of the region. The prehistoric collection of Mr. Josef Kneidinger and the presentation of the history of the horse-drawn railroad complete the exhibition.
The Gusenhalle is the largest event center in the region and can accommodate up to 500 people. The hall is used for numerous events such as balls, concerts and fairs.
