Gutau is a market town in Upper Austria in the district Freistadt in the Mühlviertel. Gutau lies at an altitude of around 590 m in the Mühlviertel.

Museum

    Dyer's Museum: Gutau is home to the only dyer's museum in Austria. The museum shows how blueprinting was made, which has been on UNESCO's international list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity since 2018. It also explains how, according to a popular notion that is not shared by linguists, the colloquial expression "to make blue" ("not to do one's work, to stay away from work or school without a valid reason") originated from a presumed inactivity of the blue dyers during the drying process.

    Färbermarkt: Every first Sunday in May, Gutau hosts the Färbermarkt, which is regularly attended by several thousand visitors.
