Schwechat is a municipality with 20,763 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) southeast of Vienna, on the river Schwechat. The town is known for the Vienna International Airport, the largest oil refinery in Austria owned by OMV, and the Schwechat Brewery's "Schwechater Bier", which is a common brand. The municipality is located in the Lower Austrian district of Bruck an der Leitha, but the vehicle registration is under "SW" and not under "BL" as in all other municipalities of the district.

Theater
The Theater Forum Schwechat, opened in 1991, hosts guest performances, theater productions and the Schwechat Satire Festival, which lasts several weeks.
Since 1973, the Nestroy-Spiele Schwechat, the town's largest periodic theater event, has been staged every July at Rothmühle Castle in Schwechat-Rannersdorf.
Parks
Important municipal green spaces are the Rathauspark and the Felmayergarten, an approximately five-hectare landscape garden that was redesigned in 1997. A fairly extensive green area is also located at Kellerberg, where the creation of the Schwechat municipal forest began in 2004.
