Hirtenberg is a market town with 2545 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Baden, Lower Austria. South of the village flows the Triesting. The village is located at the mouth of the Triestingtal valley. The Triesting, coming from the Vienna Woods, flows here into the Vienna Basin. Due to the merging of Matrei am Brenner with Mühlbachl and Pfons on January 1, 2022, Hirtenberg became the smallest market town in terms of area and the third smallest municipality in Austria overall.

    Soldier's monument next to the church:
    An eight-ton block of stone from Merkenstein, crowned by a wing-winged bronze eagle, with a marble plaque with the names of the fallen and missing from World War I (28 victims) and World War II (118 victims). The unveiling took place on October 30, 1932.
