BEETHOVENHAUS
Ludwig van Beethoven was a regular visitor to Baden. The summer resort town of Emperor Franz I and his family was frequented by the high nobility and bourgeoisie, including the patrons of the great composer. Beethoven stayed in the house at Rathausgasse 10 in the summers of 1821, 1822 and 1823. During this time he wrote essential parts of the Ninth Symphony.
In Beethoven's time the house of a coppersmith, this Beethoven House houses since autumn 2014 a museum of a new kind, with listening experience, the possibility of an in-depth study of the Ninth and presentation of the life of the genius in the city of Baden and its surroundings.
In 2014, the original wall painting was uncovered in Beethoven's summer apartment. Unique in the world, visitors can immerse themselves in the composer's everyday life here.
CASINO
It was built in 1886 as a spa house and remained so until 1934, when the architects Eugen Fassbender and Maximilian Katscher were entrusted with the planning by the incumbent mayor Oskar Alexander Graf Christalnigg zu Gilitzstein. Before that, however, the old Wochnerhaus, the baroque Theresienbad and the wooden drinking hall as well as smaller parts of the original baths had to be demolished. The casino was opened on April 12, 1934 in the spa house, which had only been provisionally adapted on the inside. Later on, the promised reconstruction was carried out and the house was opened as a casino on December 11, 1937. In the years 1945 to 1955, the Kurhaus-Casino served the Soviet occupation forces as an event center. After the occupation forces left, the building was repaired and served as an event venue for the city of Baden. Between 1966 and 1968, the Kurhaus was converted into a congress center under Mayor Hofrat Mag. Viktor Wallner. Additional space was gained by inserting a false ceiling in the large hall. The new hall and its adjoining rooms offered space for 1200 people. The large restaurant could serve 350 guests. Architect Kurt Bartak was the author of the plans for this reconstruction phase.
