Deutsch Goritz is a municipality in the southeast of Styria. It is located in the judicial district of Feldbach or district of Southeast Styria. Since 2015, it has been merged with the municipality of Ratschendorf as part of the municipal structure reform in Styria. Deutsch Goritz is located in the district of Südoststeiermark in the Austrian province of Styria, about 15 kilometers northwest of Bad Radkersburg.

Culture and sights

    The first chapel in Deutsch Goritz was started in 1873 and completed in 1889. In 1902 it was expanded into a church. In the course of the extension a monastery of the Kalasantine congregation was added. In 1904 and 1910 there were extensions of the church, which had become too small. In 1913 a theater and meeting hall was built.
    In 1957 a new parish office was built. In 2009/10 a new community center was built.
    Deutsch Goritz has inns, local shops and a skate park.
    On April 1, 1913 the theater and assembly hall was handed over to its purpose. Since then, theater has been played in Deutsch Goritz with interruptions of only a few years. The hall was also used for film screenings, lectures and various celebrations. After the Second World War, the hall also served as a public cinema from 1949 to 1969. For years, the Christmas wish concert of the Deutsch Goritz Music Association was performed in this hall. During the church renovations in 1989 and 2003, masses and church events were held there. Currently, theater is performed once a year (in November) (four performances). In addition, the hall is used for various events of the secondary school or a traveling cinema.
    The music society Deutsch Goritz was founded in 1926. It originated from the Jungsteirerbund. After the Second World War Johann Auer took over the musical direction of the music band in 1946 and rebuilt it. He held this office until 1996. In the same year the new music home was inaugurated, in which the rehearsals take place since then. Since 1972 the music band Deutsch Goritz organizes an annual Christmas and New Year's wish concert, where besides the typical songs of brass bands also modern music is performed. Since 2009, this concert has been held in the new gymnasium of the New Middle School (previously in the theater hall).

Sport

The USV Deutsch Goritz played from 2008 to 2013 in the Gebietsliga Süd-Ost.

The East Austrian Borderland Trail and the Burgenland Long Distance Trail lead through the district of Weixelbaum.
