The market town of Heiligenkreuz am Waasen is located between eastern and southern Styria, around 20 km south of Graz in the district of Leibnitz and has a population of 2888.
The municipality lies on the western edge of the Stiefingtal valley in the north of the Leibnitz district. In the settlement period around 1000, a fortified castle was built, which in the 15th/16th century
was extended to become Waasen Castle. Heiligenkreuz was first mentioned in 1265 in the Styrian land register. There is evidence of a separate parish as early as 1271.

Next to the parish church is the three-storey vicarage, which was occupied in 1790.
Calvary Church: The Calvary Church is dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother. It is a single-nave building with a single-tower façade and was built in 1756 by Johann Georg Stengg
built in 1756. The interior has an almost square floor plan, a shallow altar niche and a curved choir loft. The altar features a mourning group with angels from 1762.
Behind it, a fresco depicts angels with the arms of Christ, God the Father and a view of Jerusalem. The pulpit and the picture of the Immaculate Conception
Immaculate Conception date from the third quarter of the 18th century.
