Culture and sights
Schwanenstadt Museum of Local History: The museum of local history is located in the Pausinger Villa. The garden of the Pausinger Villa is located on a Bavarian burial ground, which was excavated and scientifically elaborated in the 1970s. Roman excavation finds were also recorded. The house was purchased and renovated by the municipality and has housed the Schwanenstadt Museum of Local History since May 26, 2007. The history of Schwanenstadt goes back to the time when the Celts populated the country and founded a settlement called Tergolape ("small market on the water") not far from the present town center. During the Roman colonial period it became a postal station due to its favorable location on the main traffic route Ovilava (Wels) - Juvavum (Salzburg). Many finds from this period can be seen in the Heimathaus. With the support of the Goldhaubengruppe Schwanenstadt and chairwoman Lisa Berger, the Heimathaus association has succeeded in acquiring a valuable original document from the year 1290. The indulgence document of Pope Nicholas IV with 13 seals, issued MCCLXXXX for the parish church "sancti Michaelis archangeli in suans" is of great importance for Schwanenstadt (formerly suans). This is the first documented reference in which the parish church in suans is mentioned.
Town square: After devastating fires in the past centuries, some town houses with baroque and renaissance facades have been rebuilt.
Stadtturm Schwanenstadt: The landmark of Schwanenstadt is the town tower at the western end of the town square; which also houses the town tower gallery.
City Hall with arcade courtyard
Protestant Christ Church
Catholic parish church Schwanenstadt hl. Michael: The church was built in the years 1900 to 1902 in neo-Gothic style. The church tower has a height of 78 meters. The mighty, 52 meter long church building with its pointed spire is the landmark of Schwanenstadt.
Calvary Church: One kilometer north of Schwanenstadt, on a small hill, lies the Calvary Church of the parish. It was consecrated in 1488 by Bishop Albert Schönhofer as the Church of the Apostles and was redesigned as the Calvary Church in 1721. A Way of the Cross leads from the town to the church, whose new, modernly designed images were consecrated in 1983.
