Culture and sights
Starhemberg Castle (Haag am Hausruck): The Renaissance-style Starhemberg Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1246 AD and is located on a hill west of the market square. The complex dates back to the 16th century, the chapel and the tower were added in the mid-1920s. The castle, now owned by DI Hatschek, served as a military hospital for the Austrian army in the early 20th century and was a transit camp for thousands of refugees during World War II. Today, some of the rooms of the castle house the Haag Heimatstuben. On display are showpieces from agriculture, lignite mining, crafts and trades, as well as prints of castles and palaces.
Rudolfspitz Castle
Catholic parish church Haag am Hausruck hl. Veit: The Gothic church building was altered in the 17th century and expanded into a Baroque hall church from 1720 to 1730.
Regular annual events include the Kirtag on Carnival Monday, the horse market on the Sunday after Ascension Day, the Country Festival of the Country and Western Friends of the Hausruckwald, the castle concert of the Marktmusikkapelle Haag held in June or their request concert in December and the beer wagon race, which takes place in the odd-numbered years in June on the market square.
The Luisenhöhe (circa 700 m above sea level), the local mountain of Haag am Hausruck, is located at the foothills of the Hausruck. There was a chairlift on the mountain until 2012. In June 2015, a new "Erlebnisbergbahn" in the form of a rail cableway of the "Wie-Li" type running on a closed track loop was opened in its place. The six-seater cars, equipped with passenger cabins, were pulled uphill by a rope and, braked by an eddy current brake, descended independently to the bottom station. In August 2015, the renovated, 750-meter-long summer toboggan run (stainless steel tub track) was also reopened. At the beginning of 2020, the run had to declare bankruptcy and has been at a standstill since then, as has the summer toboggan run.Other attractions on the Luisenhöhe include the "Weg der Sinne" nature discovery trail, the lookout station, the Hausruck Forest School and a forest high ropes park. The 32.5 m high wooden lookout tower located on the Hausruck ridge was newly built in May 2005.
