Paldau is a market town with 3136 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023) in the southeast of Styria in the district of Südoststeiermark.
Paldau is located around 32 km south-east of Graz and around 7 km west of the district capital Feldbach in the East Styrian hill country.
The earliest written record is from 1318 and reads "Paltawe". The name goes back to Slavic bloto (swamp) and Middle High German
ouwe (meadow). The field name was transferred to the settlement. On November 1, 1988, the municipality was given the name "Marktgemeinde" (market town).
