The market town of Ilz is located in eastern Styria directly at the exit of the A2 Ilz/Fürstenfeld, as well as at the north-south connection Hartberg-Riegersburg. It is the gateway to the Vulkanland and the entrance to the Styrian Thermenland. The provincial capital Graz is 42 km away.
The market town Ilz and the municipality Nestelbach im Ilztal were merged with 01.01.2015. The new municipality with 3,678 inhabitants and its 14 cadastral communities covers an area of about 39 km². With about 1,400 jobs, it occupies a top position in our region.

For the smallest children there are kindergartens and a crèche. The two elementary schools in Ilz and Nestelbach, as well as the new middle school Ilz, both with afternoon care, offer children and young people the best possible school education. For the music enthusiasts, training is offered in the music school.

The parish church dedicated to St. James, the local history museum, which provides an overview of the community, associations, crafts, agriculture and coal mining of Ilz and the surrounding area in six showrooms and a show gallery with an original mining locomotive, modern recreational facilities and riding stables.

The Ilz Rose Apple Trail invites you to a hike around Ilz with a walking time of about 3 hours. The three castles Kalsdorf, Benndorf and Feistritz can be reached comfortably by hiking and biking trails. Several ponds invite you to rest. Cozy inns, Buschenschenken and a rustic Mostschenke will spoil you with culinary delights.
