The municipality of Fehring (Styria, Austria) is located in the geographical center of the thermal and volcanic region of Styria in eastern Styria.

Fehring, the cultural center of the Raab Valley at the junction of the Thermenland and Klöcher Wine Routes, is considered a Babenberg foundation and was elevated to town status in 1962.

As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria, Fehring has been merged with the surrounding municipalities of Hatzendorf, Hohenbrugg-Weinberg, Johnsdorf-Brunn and Pertlstein since January 1, 2015, and the new municipality continues to bear the name Fehring. The basis for the merger was the Styrian Municipal Structure Reform Act - StGsrG.

Culture and sights

    The Fehring parish church consists of an older late Gothic part and the new building from 1723. It is dedicated to St. Joseph, whose image forms the center of the high altar.
    The Fehring Tabor from the late Middle Ages enclosed the parish church. The fortification with defensive walls and towers was built to protect the inhabitants and their belongings in times of war.
    Villa Agricultural College Hatzendorf
    The Gerberhaus, which was renovated in 2002, is used as an exhibition house, such as "Grenzenlos" 2007 and "Nordberg" 2010.
    In Schlittenau in Fehring is the Fehringer Kellergasse, where old wine cellars and press houses are lined up.

Nature reserve

The old arms of the Raab in the cadastral municipality of Schiefer are under nature protection (area NSG-39c). Protected are remnants of old arms as spawning areas and food sources, reed zones, remnants of alluvial forests, dead wood stands, etc. This area is called "Raabaltarme Schiefer-Hohenbrugg nature reserve with adjacent areas" and its purpose is to protect populations of rare animals and plants, such as the European beaver, otter, dormouse, kingfisher, yellow-bellied toad, stag beetle, etc.

The competence and knowledge center "River Nature on the Raab" is to be established in the former community center of Hohenbrugg an der Raab.

    Südoststeirische Thermenland-Weintage: annual events in the region include the Südoststeirische Thermenland-Weintage in August, where wines from southeastern Styria can be enjoyed while listening to music in the wine village on Fehring's main square.
    Most + Jazz: The main square also hosts the annual "Most + Jazz" festival in September, a mix of local lifestyle and music.
    Kellerstöckl hoamsuchn: Another event is the annual "Kellerstöckl hoamsuchn" on Pentecost Sunday around the Fehringer Kuruzzenkogel.
