Hofstetten-Grünau is a market town with 2724 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in Lower Austria. 

Hofstetten-Grünau is located about 15 kilometers southwest of St. Pölten in the valley of the Pielach River in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria. The lowest altitude in the municipal area is 309 meters above sea level. The highest elevation is the Plambachecker Höhe at 623 meters. 
The first documented mention of Hofstetten was as "decimationem vinearum ad Hovestetin" (tithe from vineyards in Hofstetten) between 1072 and 1091 in a foundation letter of the monastery of Göttweig. In 1184 the last representative of the Lords of Hofstetten, Chunrat, died. They were followed by the Lords of Mainburg,[3] who built a castle on the "Mainberch" and ruled until 1591.
