Lilienfeld is a municipality with 2645 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) and the district capital of the district of the same name Lilienfeld in Lower Austria. Measured by the number of inhabitants, Lilienfeld is the smallest district capital in Austria. Lilienfeld is located in the valley of the Traisen River in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria.
The area belongs to the foothills of the Alps, the local mountain of the municipality is the Muckenkogel.

Regular events

    Nostalgia ski race in memory of Mathias Zdarsky: On Lilienfeld's local mountain, the Muckenkogel, a nostalgia ski race is held every year at the Traisner Hütte on a Sunday around March 19 in memory of Mathias Zdarsky. It is the only one in the world to be held under strictly historical conditions as in Zdarsky's day. Historical equipment from the head to the ski and single pole technique are a condition for the participants, the course is set with flags true to the original and the timing is done by hand.
