Rabenstein is a market town with 2500 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in Lower Austria, south of Sankt Pölten.Rabenstein an der Pielach is located in the middle of the Pielach Valley in the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria. The market town extends at an altitude of 332 meters above sea level (Pielach at the northern boundary of the municipality).
Culture and sights
Bärntallacke: Two mighty ancient lime trees - one of them with a circumference of eight meters - together with the Lacke form this natural monument situated on the Pielachtaler Rundwanderweg 652 on the so-called "Weg der ewigen Tränen" between Geiseben and Kaiserkogel.
Rabenstein castle ruins, built in the first quarter of the 12th century on a wooded rock in the Pielach loop by one Wichard von Rabenstein, who called himself von Hohenstauf. After the extinction of his family in the name-bearing tribe, the associated manor came partly to the sovereigns, partly to the noble families of the Landenbergs; Maissauer; Scheck von Wald; the Seiseneggers; Hohenbergers and others and was united with the manor and Fridau Castle by the Sinzendorfers. In the 17th century the castle fell into ruin. On a votive picture in the Rabenstein parish church an image from this period has been preserved.[5]
