Culture and sights
Town parish church: there may have been a church building on the same site as early as 1170. After the church was severely devastated during the Hajduken invasion in 1605, the present church building dates back to a rococo style reconstruction from 1773 to 1779. At that time a second tower was removed, the church was widened and four oratories were built in. In 1988 the onion tower was renewed. In 2009 the city parish church received a new organ from the workshop of Thomas Jann (D)[10], which was consecrated by diocesan bishop Egon Kapellari.
Augustinian Hermit Church: built 1365-1368 as a pompous mendicant church. In 1964 the building, which was in danger of collapsing, was extensively renovated. For several years the church has been lifted as such and there is a museum in it.
Evangelical Church of the Savior: built in 1908-1910 by Otto Kuhlmann in the Secession style
Pfeilburg with residential tower as the oldest part from the 13th century, first tobacco factory in Austria in 1693. Today Pfeilburg Museum: Museum of Prehistory and Early History, City Museum and Tobacco Museum
Ungarbastei: After several Turkish raids on the city, in 1577 began to strengthen the city fortifications. Instead of the medieval city towers at the corners of the city wall, projecting bastions were built. Due to financial and construction problems, the much more extensive planned fortification was completed according to simpler plans in 1581. The fortification was abandoned in 1775 and renovated from 1990.
