Burgau is a market town in the political district of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld in Styria. Burgau is known for the moated castle and the pilgrimage church of Maria Gnadenbrunn. The border to the east is formed by the Lafnitz River, whose valley lies about 220 meters above sea level.
Burgau moated castle
The castle was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century and originally consisted only of a defense tower surrounded by moats.
Pilgrimage Church of Maria Gnadenbrunn
The local church Maria Gnadenbrunn zu Burgau rises in a free position on the western edge of the village on a slight hill.
Main square with Marian column
On Burgau's main square, on a square pedestal, there is an approximately eleven meter high Marian column.
Chartake
On the occasion of the exhibition Labonca-Lafnitz - Life on one of the oldest borders in Europe in 1995, a border guard house, the Tschartake, was reconstructed directly on the Lafnitz.
