Culture and sights
Catholic Parish Church of Frastanz St. Sulpitius: The church was built in 1885 according to the plan of the Cologne and Vienna cathedral architect Friedrich von Schmidt and, together with the Silbertal Parish Church by the same architect, is one of the most beautiful neo-Gothic examples in western Austria. The architect succeeded in harmonizing the structural qualities of the Gothic style with the alpine topography. One could speak of a scenic beauty of these buildings, which contains something of the spirit of the paintings of the Danube School. In both cases, the elevated location reinforces the gestural symbolism of the Gothic.
The parish includes several listed chapels (examples): Chapel of St. Wendelin Frastanz, Chapel Amerlügen, Chapel Maria Ebene, Chapel Klöslefeld, local chapel Gampelün.
Buddhist monastery Letzehof: Directly on the municipal border to Feldkirch in Maria Grün (Frastanz), the Buddhist monastery Letzehof (Tashi Rabten), the first Buddhist monastery in Austria, has been located since 1983. It belongs to the largest tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in the succession after the Tibetan master Geshe Rabten. Ordained students from Asia and Europe receive their education here, as well as in the other sites belonging to the Rabten Foundation, such as the Mother Temple (Rabten Choeling) on Lake Geneva. The monastery is run by the Austrian monk, Gelong Dschampa Lungtog. The Letzehof is frequently visited by teachers, school classes and other interested groups to receive authentic information on Buddhism.
