Unternberg is one of the 15 municipalities in the district of Tamsweg (Lungau) in the province of Salzburg in Austria. Unternberg is located in the Mur valley between the Mitterberg in the north and the Schwarzenberg in the south at an altitude between 1000 and 1800 meters above sea level.

Culture and sights

    Moosham Castle: first mentioned in 1191. Moosham Castle is the third largest castle complex in the province of Salzburg and is still owned by the family. The castle is open to the public and impresses with a rich art collection assembled by the lord of the castle, with Roman period finds from the surrounding area, and well-preserved files and torture tools from the time of the witch trials.
    Catholic parish church Unternberg St. Ulrich: A baroque building, which was extended in 1978/1979 according to the plans of the architect Heinz Tesar with a modern annex.
    Samsonumzug: The Samson procession, a very old custom in the Lungau, which takes place in the summer, in which a giant figure, the giant Samson, is carried around.
