Culture and sights
Parish Church of St. Peter im Sulmtal: With the Campanile of Sankt Peter, the parish has a special architectural feature. The 32-meter-high, freestanding bell tower was built between 1662 and 1664. One of its bells is dated 1685. It is possible that the building was intended as a tower for a church to be built later, but it was never realized in the adjacent area.
A parish church of St. Peter was first mentioned in 1244. The present church was completed between 1669 and 1701 after a fire in the previous church in 1645. It was consecrated to St. Peter and provided with rococo furnishings. In the church there is a bronze gate (based on one of the gates of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome) created by the artist Erwin Huber from Graz, as well as a baptismal font, which was also created based on models by this artist.
Since 1980 the community has also a museum of local history, which was established in the former press building of the parsonage (Kellerstöckl, around 1779).The community presents in this museum the past and the activities of the associations, the parish and the community. Other topics include customs, the history of coal mining and important events in the community.
Furthermore, the municipality has a nature trail.
In the European competition Entente Florale Europe, Sankt Peter im Sulmtal was awarded a silver medal in the category village in 2000.
