Culture and sights
Catholic Old Parish Church Stans Hll. Laurentius and Ulrich
Catholic New Parish Church Stans Herz Jesu: Worth seeing in the village is the Roman Catholic Herz Jesu Church, built between 1885 and 1896. It was built in neo-Gothic style and has a high altar modeled after the altar in Brussels Cathedral. Above Stans stands the small pilgrimage church of Maria Tax, built in 1667, with frescoes by the famous painter Christoph Anton Mayr. At the western entrance to the village is a stone wayside shrine dating from around 1500.
The monastery of St. Georgenberg, one of the most popular places of pilgrimage in Tyrol, which can be reached via the Wolfsklamm gorge, and Tratzberg Castle, situated on a northeastern hill, are important tourist attractions. The Wolfsklamm gorge has been accessible since 1901, a consequence of the wellness tourism in Stans at that time. A section of the Way of St. James runs through Stans, from Jenbach via Stans, St. Georgenberg Monastery, to Vomp, Fiecht Monastery, and from there via Terfens to Umlberg, Maria Larch Pilgrimage Church.
