St. Pankraz (also Sankt Pankraz) is a municipality in Upper Austria in the district of Kirchdorf in the Traunviertel.
The importance of St. Pankraz, which was originally called "Gschwendt", refers to the early period of our history, as the place was located on the ancient trade route that connected the German lands with the Adriatic Sea. The originally Celtic population became Kelto-Romans in Roman times, who guided the Romans over the Pyhrn and were active in the development of the road network.
During the migration of peoples, Germanic tribes invaded, Alpine Slavs advanced from the east, and the Bavarians from the west, who - the latter - probably peacefully incorporated the region into the Duchy of Bavaria. From the 12th century St. Pankraz belonged to the Duchy of Austria, the land was under the rule of landlords to whom the peasants were subject. First was the Kremsmünster monastery, then the Bamberg and Gleink monasteries, and finally the Hospice am Pyhrn, founded by Bamberg in 1190. This feudal system of ownership remained in place until the liberation of the peasants in 1848.
During the Napoleonic Wars, the village was occupied several times.
Since 1918, the community belongs to the province of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, it was incorporated into the Gau Oberdonau, and in 1945 Upper Austria was restored.
St. Pankraz belonged to the judicial district of Windischgarsten until 2012 and has been part of the judicial district of Kirchdorf an der Krems since January 1, 2013.
