Maria Lankowitz is a place of pilgrimage and a market town with 2759 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in western Styria west of Köflach and the district capital Voitsberg, as well as a former mining community in the brown coal district Köflach-Voitsberg. The village of Maria Lankowitz is located around the pilgrimage church of the same name and directly adjoins the local area of the neighboring municipality of Köflach to the east.

Buildings

    Church of Maria Lankowitz: The church is one of the pilgrimage churches of Western Styria, it is dedicated to "Mary's Visitation" and has existed since the middle of the 15th century. 

    Maria Lankowitz Monastery: The Franciscan monastery is located north of the church, it dates from 1656 to 1665, the church is cared for from the monastery.
    The Chapel of St. Anthony from around 1660 was built at the same time as the wall of the cemetery, its altar dates back to 1770. In the chapel there is a large votive picture of Count Sigmund Friedrich Herberstein.
    The portal of the churchyard dates from the beginning of the 19th century, the statues next to it from the 18th century, the wayside shrine in front of the church is dated 1658.
    On the access road to the church there are eight statues of saints from around 1730.
    The castle of Lankowitz was built from 1440 under knight Georg Gradner. In 1459 it went to Emperor Friedrich III, in 1460 to Andreas Greißenegger. After further changes of ownership, it was established as a penal institution from 1855.
    The ruins of Klingenstein Castle west of the village of Salla date from around 1400.
    The statue of the Madonna on the Wölkerkogel was created by the sculptor Alfred Schlosser in 1954.

Sports

The soccer club FC Lankowitz won the Styrian Cup in 2014 and 2015. It has played in the Styrian regional league since 2016.

From 1994 to 1998 Maria Lankowitz was the venue of the women's tennis tournament WTA Maria Lankowitz. In addition, the Xentis Triathlon is held annually at Lake Piberstein.
