Pettenbach is a market town in Upper Austria in the district of Kirchdorf im Traunviertel. The main village Pettenbach is located at 486 m above sea level in the Traunviertel.
Culture and sights
Seisenburg: In the 12th century a fortress Seisenburg was mentioned for the first time and rebuilt to a Renaissance castle in 1609. After the First World War the castle decayed more and more until only a ruin remained. Currently, hard-working helpers from Pettenbach are repairing the remains of the ruin and freeing the walls from debris and securing them. An exhibition in the Bartlhaus Museum offers a fascinating impression of the former magnificent Renaissance building. Three well-preserved so-called death shields from Seisenburg Castle from the time of the reign of the Counts Engel can be found in the market town office.
Pettenbach Castle
The Bartlhaus Museum of Writing and Local History houses the life's work of the lettering artists Leopold Feichtinger, who lived and worked in Pettenbach, and Friedrich Neugebauer. On display are a wide variety of ex-libris, saying cards and sheets, documents, coats of arms and much more. Every year there are also additional special exhibitions and writing courses are offered. The museum also houses the local history museum of Pettenbach with a special exhibition on the Seisenburg ruins. In 2006 the museum was extended by a printing museum. The outstanding personality of the association is Ottmar Premstaller, who lives in St. Georgen an der Gusen and to whom the annual exhibition of the museum was dedicated in 2010.
Catholic Parish Church of Pettenbach St. Benedict: The church was built in 1484 as a late Gothic, three-nave hall church. The baroque altar furnishings are particularly worth seeing.
Catholic Parish and Pilgrimage Church Magdalenaberg St. Mary Magdalene: The church was built around 1500 as a late Gothic, two-nave hall church. After a fire, the church received a Renaissance vault around the year 1629.
The Filial and Pilgrimage Church Heiligenleithen: This was built in 1431 in late Gothic style as a single-nave hall church and is equipped with Baroque side altars and a Neo-Gothic high altar.
Peace Cross Oberkaibling: In October 1967, the 20-meter-high illuminated metal cross was erected on the initiative of the Kameradschaftsbund of the Kirchdorf district in gratitude for the return home of many soldiers from World War II. Illuminated, it is visible far into the central region of Upper Austria and represents a symbol of peace.
