Knittelfeld is a town in the district of Murtal and judicial district of Judenburg in the Austrian state of Styria. Knittelfeld was the district capital of the district of Knittelfeld until its dissolution on January 1, 2012.Knittelfeld is a railroad town. On January 1, 2015, the municipality of Apfelberg was incorporated as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform. The municipality has 12,603 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of 645 m above sea level on the eastern edge of the Aichfeld, a valley widening of the Murtal.
Culture and sights
During the Second World War, Knittelfeld was, next to Wiener Neustadt, the most heavily destroyed town in Austria. Hardly anything of the historical building fabric has been preserved.

At the provincial flower decoration competition Flora|19 Knittelfeld was one of 7 Styrian cities to receive a total of 5 Floras, making it one of the winners in the state.[10]
In the basement of the station was built in 40 years a model railway layout on 160 m² with landscape motifs of the surroundings of Knittelfeld.
Events
Numerous cultural events take place in the Kultur- und Kongresshaus, which also serves as a venue for political events and balls. Other venues include the Forum Rathaus, the Pfarrsaal and the Arbeiterheim. In 1999 Knittelfeld was the venue for the Styrian Provincial Exhibition with the theme "Traffic", and the Provincial Exhibition Hall is still used as a venue today, for example for the annual Rock gegen Rechts (Rock against the Right) event organized by the Socialist Youth Knittelfeld.
