Stams is an Austrian municipality in the district of Imst (judicial district Silz) in Tyrol. Stams is located in the upper Inn Valley between Telfs and Imst, about 36 km west of Innsbruck. The village lies at the foot of the Pirchkogel.
Culture and sights
Stams Abbey: Cistercian monastery founded in 1273
Collegiate church: consecrated in 1284, originally Romanesque basilica, remodeled in the High Baroque style in 1729-1733, magnificent stucco, early Baroque high altar in the form of a tree of life with 84 sculptures, around 1610
The Austrian Tomb (sometimes also referred to as the Prince's Tomb)
Bernhardisaal: rebuilt in 1720
Stams Parish Church: built 1313-1316, considered the first example of mature Gothic architecture in Tyrol
Stamser Steg: suspension bridge over the Inn River built in 1935
