Ruden (Slovenian: Ruda) is a municipality in the district of Völkermarkt in the Austrian state of Carinthia with 1516 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023). 
The municipality lies in the eastern part of the Jauntal valley north of the Drau between the Wallersberg, the Lisnaberg and the Weißenegger Berg.
Local silver mining near the present-day villages of Eis and St. Nikolai has been documented since the 12th century and may have been carried out more than 2000 years ago. 
over 2000 years ago (from which the place name can be derived from the Slovenian "Ruda"). For a long time, today's municipal area was part of the 
Weißenegg lordship, which had its seat at Weißenegg Castle, built in the 12th century.
