Prottes is a market town with 1454 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Gänserndorf in Lower Austria (Austria). Prottes is located in the Weinviertel, in the north of the Marchfeld at 160 to 200 meters above sea level. 

Culture and sights

    Catholic parish church Prottes Mariä Himmelfahrt: Romanesque nave from the 13th century with Gothic choir and baroque reorientation building from 1740
    Petroleum nature trail: In Prottes there is a petroleum nature trail, where the local petroleum production is thematized in the form of an open-air museum. The petroleum nature trail begins at the main square and runs along Josef-Seitz-Strasse, where original equipment used in the exploration, extraction and processing of crude oil and natural gas is on display. The educational trail is 4.5 km long and there are more than 150 exhibits on display.
