Culture and sights
Kartause Mauerbach: The early baroque former monastery of the Carthusians is one of the most important architectural monuments of its kind in Austria. In 1984, careful restoration began by the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments, which has since housed restoration workshops there. The Mauerbach Advent Market is held there every year.
The former gate church of the Charterhouse next to the Charterhouse Gate, parish church of Mauerbach since 1782.
Mauerbach Castle Park: In 1833 the grounds were cultivated under Georg Simon Freiherr von Sina and a villa was built. In 1967 this was demolished due to dilapidation. Since 2007, the grounds have been home to a seminar hotel and restaurant, where, among other things, the OSCE met in 2017.
The Emperor Franz Joseph I Jubilee Elementary School. Built in 1908 according to plans by Josef Hofbauer.
Since 2013, the market town of Mauerbach has 3 Tut gut! - hiking trails. These start at the parking lot of the Kartause Mauerbach. As a public connection also serves the Tut gut - Schritteweg, which leads from the post garage / terminal of the bus 450, around the Charterhouse. Both projects were built by GGR Matthias Pilter in cooperation with the FVV Mauerbach.
In 2018, the revitalization of the Kutscherstall was completed, which has since housed the municipal office and the local history museum.
In a hiking guide from the Biedermeier period, the work "Wien's Umgebungen auf zwanzig Stunden im Umkreise" by Adolf Schmidl from 1835, the walks that were already popular there are also mentioned:
Mauerbach is a center of the most charming excursions, which are especially suitable for high summer, since one always stays in forests. By the way, ladies should be reminded never to forget their coats when going to Mauerbach. Apart from thundershowers, the approach of which one does not notice so soon in the limited visual circle of the valley, a significant coolness always sets in there after sunset, which one does not find to the same degree in other areas around Vienna, and one has to drive an hour before one reaches the open air in Mariabrunn.
