Kufstein is a municipality in Tyrol on the border with the Free State of Bavaria and the administrative seat of the district of Kufstein. The city is located in the Tyrolean Unterland and Unterinntal and with 19,625 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) is the second largest city in the province of Tyrol after Innsbruck. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Kufstein.
Culture and sights
Kufstein Fortress: The most important landmark is undoubtedly Kufstein Fortress on the 90-meter-high fortress hill in the center of town, which was first mentioned in the 13th century. Visible from afar is the representative imperial tower, which was built in 1518-1522. In the 18th century and during the occupation period after World War II, the fortress served as a prison.
Kufstein Fortress Organ: Kufstein Fortress is home to the largest open-air organ in the world, the Heldenorgel, which can be heard throughout the city, and a local history museum.
On the castle hill, the Josefsburg event area offers space for up to 5,000 people; since 2006 it has been equipped with a weatherproof fold-out roof.

Kufstein Town Hall: Since 1925, the town hall has displayed the coats of arms of the Tyrolean towns of Innsbruck, Sterzing, Imst, Vils, Lienz, Rattenberg, Brixen, Bruneck, Schwaz, Klausen, Kitzbühel, Glurns, Bozen, Landeck, Meran, Hall and, under the gable peak, Kufstein.
