Tourism
About 2100 guest beds in every category are available in hotels, guesthouses, inns, farms and private accommodation.
The Markbachjoch (also Marchbachjoch) is the local mountain of the Niederauer. An 8-person gondola lift and a 4-person chair lift lead up there. The skiing area belongs to the "Ski-Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau". Austria's first chairlift, opened in 1947, led from Niederau to the Markbachjoch.
In winter, Niederau is connected to the Schatzberg in Auffach by a ski bus service.
In addition to the fourteen ski slopes (ranging in difficulty from blue to black), the eleven lifts (five practice lifts in the valley, two practice lifts on the mountain, two advanced lifts, one gondola lift, one chair lift), there are also numerous cross-country ski trails and a toboggan run opened in winter 2014.
In addition, the village is a popular destination for paragliders (paragliding). With the resident flight school directly in the village, opportunities are offered for newcomers as well as for advanced pilots.
