Groß-Siegharts was first mentioned in a document in 1299. Around 1720, Johann Christoph Ferdinand, Count of Mallenthein, pursued the ambitious goal of turning the small village belonging to his lordship into a center of the textile industry. He had skilled workers from all over Europe come to the Waldviertel and built 180 "Fabrics-Häusl" in Groß-Siegharts. In each of them lived and worked 6-10 people. They produced mainly "Bandlwaren", which were offered for sale by wandering traders, the "Bandltragern" in the countries of the Danube Monarchy. The region owes the name "Bandlkramerlandl" to these traders.
