The community is located in the northern Waldviertel between Waidhofen an der Thaya and Groß-Siegharts. 

The first documentary mention of Dietmann at the end of the 14th century appears under the name "DYETMARS" (Old Dietmanns).

In a toe list a Hensel (Hans) of DIETMARS appears. According to this Hensel von DIETMARS has bequeathed to Pillung von Poppen (Vestepoppen) toeholds near Eggenburg. This proves that Dietmanns was a noble seat at the end of the 14th century or at the beginning of the 15th century.

In the 15th century the Hussite wars prevailed. That the Hussites were also in Dietmanns is not recorded in the history. However, the name "Husweg", which is still in use today and leads over the ridge between Dietmanns and Götzles, certainly dates back to this time.
