Gmünd (Czech Cmunt), the economic, cultural and tourist center of the Upper Waldviertel, is also an important rail and road crossing on the border with the Czech Republic (or Bohemia). On the territory of the municipality is the largest part of the nature park Blockheide-Eibenstein.
