Culture and sights
Catholic Parish Church Gaflenz St. Andrew: The parish church built in early Gothic architectural style was consecrated in 1140.
Pilgrimage church of St. Sebald am Heiligenstein: At the summit of the steeply sloping Heiligenstein (782 m above sea level) is the church of St. Sebald am Heiligenstein, built in the Gothic architectural style. In 1813 the bell weighing 600 kilograms was purchased. In 1832 the church received the old organ from Weyer, which was renovated by pastor Zwirtmayr until 1843. In 1945 the church and the sacristan's house were devastated by Russian guards quartered there. In 1949, the consecration ceremony for the new bell, weighing 250 kilograms, took place, but a year later the return of the abducted large bell, which had been sunk in the port of Hamburg, took place. The Roman Catholic pilgrimage church is the only church in Austria consecrated after St. Sebaldus of Nuremberg. The Sebaldus Church is the landmark of the market town of Gaflenz and also adorns its coat of arms.
