Eggern is located in the northern Waldviertel in Lower Austria. 
The municipal area includes the following three villages :

    Eggern including Bergen, Guggus and Niederwehr
    Reinberg-Heidenreichstein including Pengers
    Reinberg-Litschau 

Eggern was first mentioned in a document in 1230 and originally belonged to the county of Raabs-Litschau. Until 1635, Eggern was a separate estate in imperial possession.

The cultural center of the village is the church dedicated to St. Aegidius, built in 1792.
