Ybbs an der Donau is a township in the Mostviertel region of the Austrian state of Lower Austria with 5618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022). The town of Ybbs an der Donau is located at an altitude of 224 m above sea level in the southwestern part of the district of Melk. The location at the transition of Strudengau and Nibelungengau, northwest of the mouth of the Ybbs directly on the Danube has been secured with flood protection since 2011.

    Town fortifications of Ybbs on the Danube: A former water-bearing town moat, the so-called Schwalleck (a structure for discharging the Danube water into the moat) and a town tower at the southeastern end of the town are still preserved.

    Catholic parish church of Ybbs on the Danube St. Lawrence: The town parish church of St. Lawrence was built in the 15th century in place of the old castle building. 

    Old town: the appearance of the medieval town was changed several times by the two big town fires (1716 and 1868). As an example of a Gothic building, the so-called Passauerkasten (an early Gothic hall building) can be found on the Danube. In the southwestern part of the old town stands the castle, a Renaissance building, which today houses the Health and Nursing School of the City of Vienna. The Hauptplatz merges to the north into the Kirchenplatz and to the east into the Schiffmeisterplatz. It represents the center of the city and slopes down to Schiffmeisterplatz. In its center is the city fountain from 1613 with the figure of a knight armed with shield and sword - popularly called "Kilian" - which is a pillory figure.

    Jewish cemetery Ybbs on the Danube: the "Cultusgemeinde Ybbs" bought a plot of land on March 26, 1889, on which a cemetery wall and a ceremonial hall were built in 1894.
    Ybbs-Persenbeug power station: 1954-1957 (since 1959 road bridge over the power station) saw the construction of the first purely Austrian Danube power station Ybbs-Persenbeug, which today is also open to visitors.
