Munderfing is a municipality with 3041 inhabitants in Upper Austria in the district of Braunau am Inn in the Innviertel. Munderfing lies at an altitude of 466 m above sea level
on the western edge of the Kobernaußerwald. The name Munderfing refers to the knight Mundolf, who ruled here in the 7th century. The ending -ing
indicates a Bavarian settlement. Munderfing was first mentioned in a document in 777, in the tradition book of Mondsee Monastery.
From the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the village was Bavarian until 1779 and became part of Austria after the Peace of Teschen with the Innviertel (then Innbaiern).
