Litschau, is a municipality with 2138 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Gmünd in Lower Austria. It is the northernmost town in Austria. As a landmark of the city is the old castle tower - also called Hunger Tower. Litschau has been a climatic health resort since 2007. Litschau is located in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel in the valley of the Reißbach at 531 m above sea level, about 5-10 km from the Czech border. Not least because of the waters Herrensee and Schönauer Teich Litschau is especially in the summer a tourist place that courts families as vacation guests.
Culture and sights
Litschau Castle: The castle was built around the year 1260. It is owned by the Seilern and Aspang families and is not open to the public.
Litschau St. Michael Catholic Parish Church: The parish church is located on the town square and its oldest parts date back to the 14th century.
Railroad station: At the station of the Waldviertler Schmalspurbahnen, which was opened in 1900, grows the northernmost vine in Austria, which is also so old. The railroad operates as a museum railroad during the summer months.

Hiking trails in the nature reserve: In the municipal area there is the nature reserve Rottalmoos, which covers about eleven hectares. There are numerous cycling and hiking trails around Litschau. Two of the 16 marked hiking trails with a total length of 180 km are the circuit around the Herrensee (4.5 km) and the forest nature trail near the castle. The two longest circular trails for very sporty and persevering hikers are the 7-village circular trail (31 km) and the Litchov marathon trail (42.2 km). The Eisenwurzen long-distance hiking trail also runs through the village. Litschau belongs with five other communities to the 'Adventure Region Waldviertel NORD'.
