The municipality of Helfenberg is located in the district of Rohrbach in the upper Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. The municipality is located in the judicial district of Rohrbach and is the home municipality of the ÖVP politician and former Vice-Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner.

Culture and sights

    Catholic parish church Helfenberg hl. Erhard: The baroque church was built around 1712 by J. M.     Helfenberg Castle was first mentioned in 1224 and was rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century by Christian von Ödt. Formerly the seat of jurisdiction, it has been owned by the Revertera family of counts since 1893 and towers over Helfenberg to the north.
    The Waldkreuzkapelle Maria Rast dates back to about 1700, and many legends and myths surround its origin. Stone stones, stone circles from prehistoric times and, according to legend, healing water attract countless pilgrims every year.
    Between Ahorn and Helfenberg is the Piberstein Castle, built at the end of the 13th century by the Piber family. It was a shelter for salt and amber traders on their way between the Salzkammergut and the Baltic Sea. Besieged by the Hussites in the 15th century, it came into the possession of the Schallenbergs for a long time. Today it is a popular venue for events.
