Eberstein (Slovenian Svinec) is a market town in the district of Sankt Veit in Carinthia. The municipality is located in the middle Görtschitztal valley at the foot of the Saualpe. It is part of the Noric region.

Rock gate
The rock gate located in the district of Gutschen to the west of the train station served as a place of execution; the two pillars of the gallows located not far from it have been preserved and are listed as historical monuments.
The chronicle in the Lachitzhof Valley Museum reports that on May 23, 1747 Philipp Lackner was hanged on the rope for cattle theft.
On June 26, 1826, the cash property of Barbara Schöffmann was deposited at the district court of Eberstein. She was accused of infanticide and is said to have been executed, but there is no evidence of this.
