Breitenwang is a municipality with 1471 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Reutte in Tyrol (Austria). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte.Breitenwang is located in the valley basin of Reutte and is closely interwoven with this municipality in terms of infrastructure. The village consists of the districts Breitenwang, Lähn, Mühl, Neumühl and Plansee.

Culture and sights

   Catholic parish church Breitenwang Hll. Peter und Paul: The church was built around 1650. The ceiling fresco in the choir room with the depiction of the "handing over of the keys to Peter" from 1755 is by Johann Jakob Zeiller. In the sacristy there are four rococo silver reliquary busts depicting the apostles Peter and Paul and the two plague patrons Sebastian and Rochus. In the Resurrection Chapel there is a representation of the Dance of Death in stucco medallions (ca. 1725).
    The mortuary chapel Ad Beatam Virginem Mariam Dolorosam, which was added to the tower of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in 1732, received as part of its furnishings a dance of death created between 1724 and 1728 by the sculptor and stucco artist Thomas Seitz, who came from Füssen. In tendril-decorated medallions it is depicted how death begins the last dance with ten people. The deceased can each be recognized by their insignia and attributes; texts or names are omitted. On the left wall: pope, Moses, woman, innkeeper, beggar; on the right wall: emperor, teacher of law, soldier, cooper, peasant. The furnishings also include: stucco reliefs in the spandrels of the choir dome and further reliefs in the fillet between the wall and the base of the dome; ceiling paintings by the Reutten painter Paul Zeiller; sculptures by the sculptor Anton Sturm from Füssen.
