Seebenstein covers an area of 9.09 km² and is situated at an altitude of 348 m above sea level. It currently has almost 1500 inhabitants. In addition, about 500 people, mainly from the Vienna area and its surroundings, have chosen Seebenstein as their second home.
The pretty village nestled in the midst of wooded small mountains and hills has something attractive and friendly due to its protected location and thus quietly invites every visitor to stay.
It is not without reason that Seebenstein, which is only an hour away from Vienna by express train, has its own railroad station on the Aspangbahn and can be reached just as quickly via the A2 (Südautobahn, Seebenstein exit), has been called "THE PEARL OF THE PITTENTAL" since earlier times.
Burg2.jpgOf course, the old Seebenstein Castle - first documented in 1092 - also contributes to this preferred designation. The castle, which withstood the Turkish wars, shows two building periods - 11th and 16th century. It towers proudly and powerfully over the village, is visible from afar and thus acts as the ruler of the Pitt Valley. Today, the castle houses an incomparably rich art collection and has become a treasure chest of exquisite art and bygone chivalric romance. Thus, Seebenstein Castle is one of the first-rate sights in this valley.
Church1.jpgThe history of the village is closely connected with the history of the parish church, which is dedicated to St. Andrew. The church of Seebenstein is said to have been mentioned for the first time as early as 1290. It is an interesting building on a small hill in the middle of the village.
In the years 1849 to 1853, under the patronage of Princess Franziska de Paula von und zu Liechtenstein, the church underwent a thorough renovation and remodeling in neo-Gothic style and was furnished with works by the famous artist Joseph Angeler. The church thus counts as another sight of the village.
Seebenstein, with its wooded surroundings, also offers many opportunities for comfortable walks, but also for extended hikes on well-marked trails through the Seebenstein Park, which was founded in 1982.
Along the so-called Hampeweg, which lies south of the village from the Meierhof (near BlickvonWaldlehrpfad.jpgNaturparkeingang) at the edge of the forest, a forest nature trail was built for about 2 km to Schiltern, which is equipped with numerous inventory pictures and display boards as well as resting benches and a shelter hut. A Robinson playground set up on this trail is especially popular with young guests and visitors. Nearby they will find the neat Hubertus chapel, built in cooperation with the Seebenstein hunters' association. With all these facilities have been created valuable facilities for nature lovers.
