Orth an der Donau (until September 12, 1959 only Orth[1]) is a market town with 2159 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Gänserndorf in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. Orth an der Donau is located in the Marchfeld in Lower Austria in the center of the Donau-Auen National Park.
Culture and sights
Orth Castle: A mighty three-story, three-winged complex with four dominating corner towers. The west wing dates back to the 12th century. After severe damage during the First Austrian Turkish War in 1529, the complex was rebuilt in 1550, retaining the ground plan and the existing layout.
Donau-Auen National Park: since 1996, the castle has served as the headquarters and visitor center of the Donau-Auen National Park.

Catholic parish church Orth an der Donau hl. Michael: A former fortified church. After severe damage during the First Austrian Turkish War in 1529, the medieval church was rebuilt and baroqueized in 1689 while retaining the late Gothic core.

Schiffmühle Orth an der Donau (Orth Ship Mill on the Danube): Of the up to 60 ship mills that were originally in operation along the Danube below the city of Vienna, one functioning ship mill has been preserved. After the mill sank, it was raised again and repaired in 2008.
