Mittersill is a town in the federal state of Salzburg. It is the largest town in the Oberpinzgau region with 5575 inhabitants. Mittersill was until 2004 the seat and part of the judicial district Mittersill and since 2005 belongs to the judicial district Zell am See.
Culture and sights
The parish church of St. Leonhard dates back to the 13th century and received an onion tower in the Baroque period. It has a rococo high altar from the 18th century and a stone sculpture of St. Leonhard from 1420.
The church of St. Anna was built in the 18th century in the Tyrolean Rococo style. It was leased by the Protestant community in the middle of the 20th century and has served them as a parish church ever since. Every year on July 26, Annentag, a Catholic service is held here.
The Mittersill Museum of Local History is located in the 900-year-old Felberturm in the Felben district. The rich collections deal with the history of the village and the region, as well as geology and alpinism.
"Nationalparkwelten" (information center of the Hohe Tauern National Park): The alpine world of experience, 266 three-thousand-meter peaks, over 342 glaciers and one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world can be admired under roof since the summer of 2007. The new National Park Worlds, the largest and most modern national park center in Europe, is located in Mittersill. You can walk through eight natural areas and learn about and understand the extraordinary diversity of the largest protected area in the Alps (over 1800 km²).

Historic village center
Memorial and gravesite of Anton von Webern, who met his tragic death in Mittersill.
Mittersill Castle, located not far from the village on the Pass Thurn road. It is now used as a 4-star hotel with a restaurant in historicist style.
The Schößwendklamm gorge is an extraordinary natural spectacle and was declared a natural monument by law in 1983 because of its peculiarity and beauty. The gorge is a worthwhile excursion destination in the Felbertal. It is easily accessible by footbridges and offers an imposing impression. Due to its location not far from the road to Hintersee, it can be easily reached from there.
The natural monument Hintersee (1313 m) at the head of the Felbertal valley is a popular excursion destination and starting point for high alpine mountain hikes. The lake was formed in 1495 by a huge landslide. From the "Gamsblick-Alm" on the far shore of the lake, you can observe chamois in the wild with the naked eye.
On the route of the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn there are regular trips with the steam locomotive Mh 3 and historic carriages to Krimml with connection to the Krimml Waterfalls.
