Michelbach is a market town with 854 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022) in the district of Sankt Pölten-Land in Lower Austria. Michelbach is located in the mountainous region of Mostviertel southeast of St. Pölten in Lower Austria. 

Culture and sights

    Farm and Handicraft Museum: Old agricultural and domestic tools and machines are exhibited on the farm.

Charcoal burning site

    On the road between Michelbach and Stollberg is the Hochecker charcoal burning workshop, founded in 1960, currently run by the 2nd and 3rd generations of the founding family. It is one of the last of the "black trade", which used to be found in great numbers in the Vienna Woods. Here hardwood from the Vienna Woods is processed into charcoal.

Elsbeerreich

The Association for the Preservation, Care and Marketing of Wild Service Trees, based in Michelbach, designates the area of the municipalities of Brand-Laaben, Kasten bei Böheimkirchen, Stössing, Michelbach, Pyhra, Sankt Veit an der Gölsen, Rohrbach an der Gölsen, Hainfeld, Ramsau and Innermanzing as the "Wild Service Trees Kingdom". On August 16, 2009, at a festive event in Grafenegg Castle, the region was accepted into the Genuss Region Österreich initiative of the Ministry of Life and Agrarmarkt Austria Marketing GesmbH. as the Genuss Region Wiesenwienerwald Elsbeere .

Observatory
On an elevation near Michelbach village, the Michelbach Observatory was built in 1998 by the amateur astronomers' association Antares. The public observatory, which is sponsored by the province of Lower Austria, is located at an altitude of 636 meters above sea level and organizes weekly guided star tours. The largest dome building has a diameter of 4.5 meters. Next to it are other dome buildings and the main building with a lecture hall and solar telescope.
