Imst in the Austrian state of Tyrol is the capital of the political district of Imst as well as the judicial district of Imst and has 10,919 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2022). Imst is located at 828 m above sea level in the Upper Inn Valley, on the edge of the Lechtal Alps. The local mountain is the 2774 m high Muttekopf. The southern border of the municipality is formed by the Inn River.
Culture and sights
Old Town: The appearance of Imst is characterized by burgher houses from the Gothic to the Baroque period. Today, the town is highly urbanized and dominated by tourism.
The Catholic parish church of Imst was built from 1462 to 1493 as a late Gothic hall church by the Imster Bauhütte. The interior was baroqueized in 1780 and newly vaulted after a fire in 1822 and reconstructed in Gothic style around 1908.

Museum im Ballhaus: The Museum im Ballhaus documents the history of the town. It is located in a building from the 16th century.
Fountains: The town's supply of drinking and service water was originally limited to public fountains. More than 35 drinking fountains characterize the image of the town ("Brunnenstadt Imst"). 18 of them are historic fountains, mostly dedicated to saints, which have been carefully renovated. These fountains served not only the citizens, but also the numerous livestock. During the two big processions (Corpus Christi and Assumption of the Virgin Mary) the fountains are especially beautifully decorated.

The Bundesrealgymnasium Imst, built from 1970 to 1973, was listed as a model school of prefabrication in school construction.

Imst Art Club: In the cultural scene, the Imst Artclub repeatedly sets accents with large concerts and festivals (such as the Rolling Stones or Velvet Revolver).
Imst is home to many visual artists.
The town is home to two theater associations.
For a time, the playwright and filmmaker Hans Hömberg lived and worked in Imst.
Imster Schemenlaufen: The Imst carnival, the Schemenlaufen, was added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012. After painstaking and careful work, the old Widum, a desolate baroque building, was turned into the House of Carnival with archives and carnival museum. The cooperation with the two other big carnival towns of the Oberland, Telfs and Nassereith, was intensified. In addition to the "big carnival", the Buabefasnacht, the small edition of the Schemenlaufen, takes place every three to five years. At the 2014 Buabefasnacht, around 340 enthusiastic "Buaben" aged between 6 and 16 took part.
