Frantschach-St. Gertraud is a market town in the district of Wolfsberg in Carinthia. Located northeast of Wolfsberg, the municipal area extends from the Lavant River to the slopes of the Koralpe. The 16 villages of the municipality are located at an altitude of 504 to 1600 meters above sea level. In the east, the municipality borders on the Styrian district of Deutschlandsberg.
Culture and sights
Catholic Parish Church of St. Gertraud in the Lavant Valley St. Gertrude of Nivelles: The late Gothic church building is from the first half of the 16th century. In it, on the west wall, there is a Gothic fresco created around 1420. A predecessor building was first mentioned in a document in 1289, and St. Gertraud has been a parish since 1539.
Catholic parish church Kamp hl. Nikolaus: The church in its present form is also built in late Gothic style (end of 15th/beginning of 16th century), it was mentioned in documents as early as 1346 (uncertain) and 1399.
The Frantschach blast furnace is located on the Lavant River north of St. Gertraud. The tower-like building, erected in 1848 and decorated with gothic ornaments, is included in the municipality's coat of arms as a landmark.
